Life is full of miracles(奇迹). They come in all sizes, too. Most people only notice the big miracles, but the tiny miracles surround us every day. They are gentle reminders of how much we are loved and how much we can love, too.

I got one of these miracle minders just the other day as I was driving my disabled son to the place where he worked part-time. The sky was full of gray clouds, but they had not upset me. I was singing along with the radio and keeping my eyes open for little things that would move my heart. So far that day I had noticed the first red maple(枫叶) leaves of the year, and a smiling dog sitting in front of a gate.

The best sight of all, though, happened just as I rounded a corner. A young mother was waiting to cross the road. Her five-year-old daughter was by her side. In the mother’s arms was another daughter, about two. As we got closer to the family, the little baby in the mother’s arms saw us, smiled, lifted her tiny arm, and began to wave at us. My son and I both smiled and waved back at this little baby. Just then, the gray clouds parted and a ray of sunshine broke through to kiss that little girl with its light.

That miracle moment stayed in my heart the rest of the morning. I felt love flowing down from that girl’s tiny wave. I hope we can live as she does: happily, lovingly and enthusiastically, and that we can share our own smiles, waves and light with everyone we meet in this world.

C

For a person to understand the true meaning of friendship, he has to be a true friend first. A friend provides care and comfort when all others have closed their doors on a person. As Grace Pulpit puts it, “A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out.”

A true friend is someone who teaches us something valuable and from whom we can learn about love and life. In the words of Albert Schweitzer, “In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. We should be thankful for those people who refresh our inner spirit.”

A true friend is one who accepts us the way we are, and in front of whom we can make a fool of ourselves and can talk anything under the sun. As Elbert Hubbard says, “A friend is a man who knows all about you and still likes you.”

A friend is someone who contributes to our growth as an individual, never gets in the way—unless to motivate us to do better in life—and gives us space. According to Elisabeth Foley, “The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.”

The meaning of friendship for children may be slightly different. They may feel that if they socialize(交际) with someone every day, then he is their true friend. That is why it is up to adults to tell children that a true friend is someone who would never think of hurting his friend. As Samuel Taylor Coleridge says, “Friendship is a sheltering tree.”

A true friend is someone who gives us a reality check every now and then, and tells us when we are going wrong. As a Sicilian proverb goes, “Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty.”

So, make as many friends as you can and be a good friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.”

64. What would be the best title for the text?

A. listen to their parents about making friends

D. never hurt their friends

67. What can we learn from the text?

A. A true friend won’t see your mistakes.

B. Our inner fire easily goes out with true friends.

C. A true friend will talk with you under the sun

D. To be a friend is one of the best things you can do

D

If I could change one thing in the world right now, it would be to stop global warming and climate change. Climate change has now become the 21st century’s number one environmental concern. Not only does it affect the way humans live, but it also affects the animals’ way of life. It’s high time we did something about it.

Some people may say that global warming isn’t serious, but in fact it is. Studies have suggested that by the year 2050 two-thirds of the Earth’s polar bears will have died. In 1973, Norway, the United States, Denmark, Canada and the former Soviet Union all signed the International Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears and Their Habitat. The Agreement says that “the taking of polar bears shall be forbidden”, and that “the term taking includes hunting, killing and capturing”. Well, doesn’t it mean killing them by letting them die from global warming continues to threaten the polar bears, scientists predict that they will become extinct within the next century.

Some people say that global warming isn’t our fault, but it really is a man-made problem. Things like burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil have caused these climate changes. Agriculture, deforestation(毁林)and industrial processes have also affected the change. All the coal, gas and oil that we use contribute to the carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. These gases are what we call greenhouse gases and they trap heat in the atmosphere. Scientists say that sixty to eighty percent greenhouse gases must be gone by the year 2050 in order to avoid the warning of only two degrees Celsius.

We all need to put forth an effect. By using energy-efficient light bulbs, appliances, computers as well as heating and cooling more efficiently, conserving water, switching to reusable power, reducing air travel, driving less and driving smarter you can help make a difference. Remember, global warming is an issue and it’s affecting everyone and everything. We made the mess, so it’s time we should clean it up.

68. According to the passage, people now are most concerned about___.

A. climate change  B. population  C. living standard  D. pollution

69. How do green gases affect the climate?

A. By warming the atmosphere.   B. By preventing heat from escaping.

C. By burning fossil fuels.        D. By mixing different gases.

70. Which one is NOT helpful in reducing global warming?

A. Using energy-efficient appliances. B. Heating and cooling more efficiently.

C. Switching to reusable power.     D. Washing with the running water.

71. What’s the purpose of the author in writing this passage?

A. To discuss the serious situation polar bears face.

B. To criticize the behavior of human beings towards the environment.

C. To call for people to make a better effort to prevent global warming.

D. To analyze the reasons why the earth is becoming warmer.

British scientists say they have developed a material that could help protect older adults from breaking bones when they fall. The new substance is called Armourgel. Scientists say it is soft enough to be put in normal everyday clothing.

As people get older, many of them develop the disease osteoporosis(骨质疏松). It makes their bones so weak that even a minor fall can cause a bone to break. In some cases, older adults can die from breaking bones or from problems resulting from them.

Armourgel is a combination of two new man-made materials. These materials quickly take in or absorb energy when they hit something, which protects whatever is behind the material.

Researcher, Daniel Plant, works at Imperial College in London. He launched (set up) a company called Armourgel Limited. He says one of the materials in Armourgel moves with the clothing, but becomes hard when it strikes something. Researchers have joined the material with a substance whose cells collapse(瓦解) when they are hit. Daniel Plant says, it is the combination of these materials that makes Armourgel special. The new product is said to be much thinner than other protective materials currently being sold.

In a video on the company's website, an unprotected ball hit by a hard object is shown breaking into many pieces. But a ball protected by Armourgel does not break. That is because the Armourgel pad hardens and absorbs the energy of the object when it is hit. Soon after the material hardens, it becomes soft again.

Doctor Gambert, who helps older men and women who have suffered injuries told VOA on Skype that having the ability to turn soft quickly means Armourgel can be put into clothing. But Doctor Gambert says, bone protectors, no matter how good, are not the best solution.

"The key is to prevent the bones from losing their mineral content, staying healthy. And then even if you fall, you won't break your bone," said Gambert.

72. Of the two materials making up Armourgel,___.

   A. both can be found in the natural world

 B. only one can absorb energy when it hits something

 C. one can turn hard when it strikes something

 D. both protect the mineral content of bones

73. Why can be put into clothing?

 A. It is very thin and comfortable to wear.

B. It is good for health.

  C. It can turn soft quickly.

 D. It can keep people dry and warm.

74. According to Doctor Gambert, __.

A. Armourgel is too soft to be put into clothing

B. bone protectors are useless

C. mineral content can be lost easily among injured people

   D. keeping the mineral content of bones is very important

75. What is the text mainly about?

A. How to treat osteoporosis.

B. How to prevent falls in old people.

C. A new material that can prevent bone breaking.

D. An experiment on how to prevent bone breaking.

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分35分)

第一节  任务型写作(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。

Many people believe that the role of teachers in a writing class doesn’t go beyond providing guidance and assistance. However, with the emphasis changing from guidance to the process, the roles of teachers have changed accordingly. They no longer simply try to enable their students to write in fixed patterns by imitating model texts; they now help students develop strategies for generating(生成),drafting, and refining(改善) ideas. Thus, learners go back and forth, and constantly revise(修订) what they have written. To them, the stages in the process, not the product, are important.

Writing teachers should provide models for learners to let them know what is expected of them and let them compare their work with that of outstanding writers. This helps students see their strengths and weaknesses, and understand what they need to do to improve their work.

However, providing models is not enough. Teachers should give students feedback(反馈)on their essays. There are actually two main levels of feedback. The first is at the surface. At this level teachers can use colored pens to show the students their errors of grammar and spelling.

As for the second, it is a matter of the “content” rather than the“form”, and generating, drafting, and refining ideas are all of great importance at this level. When dealing with this, teachers should talk to the learners in person to show them exactly where their weaknesses lie.
